I think you are addressing a problem faced by all internet service providers in general. Americans, as a whole, are not as technologically proficient as we like to think. Not only can we (at-large) not program our VCR's, I have heard some horrible stories about ineptitude with ATM's. In order for anyone in this industry to make money, and that includes AOL, the market still has to grow. The questions is, can it happen now that the early adopters have adopted? That is why WebTV is so appealing to parties like Microsoft, while to others it makes no sense as an acquisition.
