In order to achieve peaceful resolution to conflict, there has to be a final authority. As long as the United States continues to act impartially this will never happen. Canada has developed foreign policies which do not align with the United States in many critical areas. I see little risk of Canadians becoming Americanized, after 130 years in same duplex the differences are more pronounced, not less pronounced.

I think the people along the border are going to be a lot more conscious. The US was severe but I think most people will hear the message very clearly. At least the poor bastard wasn't selling wheat, then we would have asked that he be extradited and he would be facing hard time.
