Always remember system performance does not solely depends on CPU speed. To some extend, it is determined a lot by the availibility and
performance of the software systems. Even HP INTEL have the 64 bit
microprocessor. They don't have 64 bit software (OS and APPS) to support it. HP-UX 10 does not even support multithreads. How would it
power up 64 bit CPU? I worked with HP-UX and HP-RT (HP's real time unix kernel) on a Video stream server project. I personal think they are inferior to SUN's technololy. HP-RT is a very old kernel and does
not scale well in a ATM video server network. While HP-UX have some issues spporting 300 set-to-box clients. HP is working with SCO to come up with 64 bit UNIX for intel. But SCO UNIX is based on SVR3 which is years older than the current release SVR4.2. I think they will still have a lot of catch up to do. SUN has already got 64 bit solaris for ULTRASPARC. As "The NETWORK is the COMPUTER", System with 64 ultrasparc microprosssors running solaris will be more powerful than HP-INTEL combination.
