The dollarization issue in my eyes is a way that these countries finally take their respective futures seriously, or at least more so than in the past. It would be a way to impose much needed discipline.

Perhaps is a wishful thinking scenario, but on the other hand, what else have they got ? I think they have reached the end of the rope. I can not imagine these countries continuing under the old ways... Yes, you are correct that it will require that each respective country become responsible in how they do business.

I imagine that a more open participation from US firms would increase the "trust" factor. Perhaps in some sort of "partnerships" with the locals. Certainly this would require the co-operation of each individual government.

The experience in Ecuador may be a good "sample" of things to come.

Other than that... I guess it is wishful thinking on my part.

As to the Spaniards... I imagine they see great potential in these growing markets, remember that for them the "cultural shock" is far less of an impact.

For starters, there is 'almost' no language barrier, so for them, I imagine they see a very large market in which to expand for their own ventures. It would be easier to envision "partnerships" between Spanish and Latin American firms, than American and Latin American firms.

Just a wild guess.

Have a good weekend !
