The Texas slump was specific to its oil industry imploding in the early 80's, after the huge bubble in both oil and gold in 1980 at the crest of the energy crisis.

Accurate but not complete. Austin, for example, was thought by pundits to be recession resistant due to the diversity of business...High tech Govt. etc....well all of the businesses in the mix turned down around the same time...and yes, things like Banking were directly related to the bubble you mention. My memory is that most of the country felt some of the pain...and not just in tax dollars <g>

I don't know anything about real estate cycles...but it was odd that even High tech turned down at the same time. I had never seen foreclosure signs before...suddenly, they were everywhere. Wonder if that is how this stock market bubble will end?
