LSI Logic's PC DVD Solution to be in Dell Inspiron Notebooks

Superior Video and Audio Playback with Ultra-Low Power Consumption Enable DVD Performance on Portable PCs

MILPITAS, Calif., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that it will supply Dell
Computer (Nasdaq: DELL) with a second-generation PC DVD solution for Dell's Inspiron notebook PCs for home and small
business customers.

Based on LSI Logic's single-chip L64020 DVD decoder, the PC DVD solution offers superior-quality video and audio
playback, full compliance with industry standards, and the most versatile "trick-play modes" such as fast forward, freeze frame
and slow motion. The L64020 decoder also offers the extremely low power consumption, enabling PC suppliers to easily
integrate next-generation DVD capabilities into portable systems.

"Dell views DVD as a key capability in personal-computing systems," said Stephan Godevais, vice president and general
manager of the Dell Inspiron product group. "Providing a portable, high-quality DVD solution at an affordable price is another
example of how Dell is bringing leading edge technology into the mainstream notebook market."

Beginning today, customers can order DVD on the company's Dell Inspiron notebooks for all business and consumer
customers.

"We are very pleased that Dell has chosen our DVD solution," said Elie Antoun, executive vice president of consumer
products at LSI Logic. "Dell, the world's leading direct computer-systems company, is truly a key design win for us, and one
that validates our capabilities in this exciting new market ."

"By working with trend-setting consumer electronics companies, LSI Logic has developed the quality and features required for
second-generation DVD playback," said Simon Dolan, vice president of marketing for consumer products at LSI Logic. "As a
leading semiconductor supplier with proven high-volume MPEG-2 experience, LSI Logic has brought the cost/performance
advantages of the consumer marketplace to the PC platform."

LSI Logic's family of DVD solutions addresses all segments of the PC marketplace and is optimized for cost-effective
integration of DVD into the mainstream mobile and desktop PC platforms. For portable PCs, LSI Logic supports the
PCMCIA and PCI card interfaces; for desktop systems, LSI supports the PCI, VIP and VMI interfaces.

LSI Logic's decoder chip includes an MPEG-2 audio/video decoder, along with Dolby Digital and Linear PCM audio
decoders and sub-picture units. The combination of these elements provides the highest quality video and audio performance
available and offers customers a variety of advanced trick-play modes, including picture search, freeze frame, frame advance,
frame reverse, and variable-speed play. Other advanced features supported include on-screen display, multi-camera angle,
zoom and pan-and-scan functions.

"MPEG-2 quality playback and instantaneous trick-play performance are key to achieving a next-generation consumer DVD
experience on the PC," said Christian Joly, LSI Logic's director of strategic marketing for DVD PC. "DVD hardware
implementations are the only viable solution for achieving these performance levels at minimum costs. The cost-effective LSI
Logic hardware DVD solution requires only a fraction of the bandwidth of today's lowest cost CPUs and, at 730 mW, our
DVD decoder runs at nearly half the power consumption of our nearest competitor."
