siber great input on the topic of firewalls and DOS attacks. as for connection being reset by peer, that message usually means that the site you are connected to has reset the connection and is usually caused by a high amount of traffic on the site, or may be caused by a server error as well. you mentioned, "my homepage which refreshes a couple of times an hour". you could try another homepage, or another refresh increment. i don't know anything about outlook. its popularity is a double-edged sword, and it attracts too many virus writers for my comfort level.
