Kent,

Thank You, Finally someone who can see thru the HYPE!!!!

As for Oracle maintaining its lead in the industry, never fear....
V8 Oracle is due out next year, and it is yes, you called it, Object Oriented!!!!

So don't worry, Informix's Illustra, or whatever it is called, is of very little worry to Oracle...
The applications where this technology is useful are very VERY limited....
At this point in time, only Some scientific apps can use this technology....
Besides, If Oracle thought it would be a challenge, They would manage to incorporate the technology, (they are probably already working on it..) ; Remember Sybase being the main Client Server Database several years back?? Well all I need to say is Oracle V7 (Oracle took every bit of functionality provided by Sybase, and did it better, much better, not to mention the obvious , MARKETING!!!

One of the reasons I am not in favor of the NC challenge, which I mentioned a while back, is that he is messing with Gates, and he has responded as anticipated, He took the NC challenge, and will probably win that battle.... Just look at Netscape....

Oh well, enough rambling...

Well one more thing....
The NC for around a $1000 ????
who cares????!!!! People can buy a fully configured 100 or 133 mhz Pentium with plenty of memory, disk space, 8X cd rom, multi-media, for that price, or even less, and the prices are continually dropping, as Intel comes out with more advanced CPU's!!!!!!
get real.... The NC is a waste of time!!!!!!!!!!!
