Why should I register, and pay for this site? As a "free" user, I can't see what use the site has, and I'm not going to pay for using the site, and find out later that it's nothing more than a collection of gripes, and no real help.
Sure; fine... you pay for a month, and then don't renew... Again, why? Looking for information about finding the "image.dat" and "image.idx" files on a now-corrupted hard drive, I found three links to this site... but NONE of them had any real information. I tried to search, and it said I had to register. I registered, and now it says I don't have access to that at my membership level. Why should I pay when there is nothing I can do to find out what it is I would be paying for?
I'd like to see some decent reasons why you would pay for a service you can't get any hint of the usefulness of without seeing it in advance. If I were to get my house siding replaced, I'd ask around and see what other people had done, who did it, how much it was, etc. But with the internet, you only have what you show in most cases... and what I see isn't worth a cent.
These sites need to learn that sometimes, access to the "advanced" features would be good for getting people in... especially if it's of any real value to the person in the future. If it's not worth keeping around, nobody's going to renew... why not give them a reason to pay for the bigger subscription to begin with?
This might sound like rambling, but with all the sites out there claiming to have good support, many users, and lots of features... but you can't USE any unless you pay a minimum of $20 for a one-month subscription... it's of my opinion that all these sites are bunk. If they had any real value, they'd at least give you a preview. Even software companies let you download a demo, full featured... it shuts down after a week or two, yes -- but by then, you've had time to see what it can do.
If this site is that good, why not show it?
