Dear Thomas: From a purely MILITARY point of view I am sure a Volunteer Army provides the best trained most motivated force. From a CITIZEN point of view, I could be persuaded to accept a draft. I personally Volunteered for the Marines as I didnt WANT to be drafted by the Army, but I learned while in the service that MANY people, myself included, actually BENEFITTED from our Military Service. In my case, I learned to discipline myself and my mind ie I grew up. In other cases I met people who had never been even 50 miles from home in their ENTIRE LIVES. They learned a lot about the world. We ALL benefitted physically. So, for those reasons, I dont have a problem with the draft, however one HAS to understand it will be far more expensive for the Army since the rate of reenlistment will fall greatly resulting in continual high training expense.
