OT- Hi Sioux, hope all is well.Great article on the dictator we have here in NJ.The Emperor Has No Clothes" By William J. Lavin,
In a children's book by Hans Christian Anderson, an arrogant king who prided himself on looking regal, bragged about wearing a new spectacular set of clothing each and every day. One day a couple of rogue tailors came to town and hatched a plan to hoodwink the king and his minions. They pretended to weave royal robes that only those who were extremely intelligent could see and those who could not were considered fools. Of course the robes did not exist at all but people who did not want to be thought of as ignorant, including the king, pretended to see magnificent clothing when in fact none were actually there. This continued until the king paraded naked through the kingdom only to be exposed by a little innocent boy who was not sophisticated enough to lie and exclaimed what everybody else already knew, the emperor had no clothes. The king and the town's people cringed with embarassment and were ashamed of their foolishness.
So we have the Governor of the State of New Jersey, Chris Christie, who is so popular and so highly thought of that he is being touted as a presidential candidate of the United States of America for 2012.
So what has Governor Christie done that he is so highly thought of? Has he lowered our taxes? Has he made our State more economically attractive to business? has he made our communities safer? Has he made our schools more productive and creative places where learning can thrive? Has he raised the level of civility and discourse with government leaders and union officials? Has he offered solutions that will generate jobs and revenue for our State? Has he been articulate and well spoken and thoughtful and a role model for statesman to come? What, in fact, has he done?
Let's talk about what Governor Christie is know for thus far. Attacking teachers, drastically reducing school aid, responsible for laying off thousands of teachers, reduced municipal aid, responsible for the reduction of Police and Fire Departments across the State, loyffs and demotions of firefighters and police. Lost 400 million dollars in federal education money, another 250 million lost because he was too stubborn to apply in a timely manner, lied to get elected, lied to protect his reputation, fired his Education Commissioner, cancelled the tunnel project, the largest federal investment in the country costing countless jobs and 300 million dollars already spent on environmental studies, palnning and development of the tunnel. All told New Jersey has lost a Billion dollars all at the hands of this brilliant charismatic statesman we now consider to be presidential material.
Actually this governor has not done a single positive thing to help the people of New Jersey. Yet legislators are afraid to say it, the media is afraid to say it, the taxpayer has been convinced not to say it. Sounds awfully similar to the fairy tale described above, does it not?
The reality is that this governor has no policy other than vilifying th very people that make our State great. An economic policy of not paying your bills only works for so long and then you have to have a real plan. Placing communities at risk only works so long as no one dies at a result. Oh yeah, I forgot, "nobody is going to die, nobody is going to die" says Governor Christie, "and anyone who says they are is ignorant and a fear monger, and alarmist and should be ashamed of themselves". Wow, sounds eerily like Hans Christian Anderson's story!
Sooner or later New jersey wakes up to some innocent citizen, teacher, firefighter, or police officer, or perhaps even more remarkably, a legislator who stands publicly and says this Governor has no plan, is about nothing, and popular or not is a fraud and a charlatan and in fact has no political clothing what so ever. Question is, will it be too late? Let us hope not. Call your legislator today and ask them to have the courage to say what most of us already know! Editors Note: Ironically, as we go to press the NJ State Republican Committee has announced a new line of Chris Christie clothing being sold online. |
