Interesting article. My comment/question: The 'router as commidity' idea seems to ignore the maintenance issue, if you have a [inter intra extra]network put together of components from various manufacturers that are SUPPOSED to interoperate, but then gets some bug, who are you gonna call? And whatever support you get is most likely to say 'Its not our problem, its that brand X [hub, router, switch, . . . .box] ' From what I've heard when you call cisco on the phone with a problem, they send someone right away. I think the reliable, single source support is why Cisco has 85% of the market, or at least is a pretty big factor. -randy
