Richard,

I firmly believe that Intel is the type of stock you buy any sit on for many years. Like you, I fired my broker over a Intel deal. But instead I fired him for recommending me to sell. I bought the stock on his recommendation in spring 1996 at $50. The stock initially fell 10 points and then moved up. After 3rd quarter (1996) earnings were released he recommended I sell, which I did at a 90% profit. Since then the stock has continued to climb (and split). I don't want to appear too greedy (afterall a 90% profit isn't bad for a 6 month investment), but what I learned from the experience was that you don't need to pay high priced dollars from so-called experts to recommend stocks like Intel.
