Usually, "fundamentals" refers to financials, not rumors and
stories. But you are right in that the latter have been the
fundamentals of AOL.

Well, AOL has amazing track record of inviting disasters. Before
the overload mess it was overcharging and what Attorneys General
and the FTC termed deceptive practices. Before that it was selling subscriber lists without subs knowledge or consent. etc. etc,

And recall that what sparked the huge 1996 fall that started in
May was prospect of a good old fundamental of slowing sub growth.

Betcha I could come up with longer and more plausible list of what could make AOL tank from here than you can of what would make it go up.
