Agreed. But in the last 6 years it has become SO OBVIOUS, and the consequences are so dire, that it's impossible to believe we are not in a full fledged war to get off the stuff.

If this is the reason Bush raided Iraq, and I think it is, talk about fool's gold. You either steal the stuff or come up with an alternative.......not this sitting on a barbeque spit roasting over a hostile fire.
