...but if you are not COMMITTED to trading/speculating/investing full-time...

Ahh... there's the rub! I'd love to trade full-time, but I have been primarily a mutual fund investor for many years who browses their performance once every three months. I play with only 2 or 3 stocks at a time with only a very small part of my assets. Once in awhile, I have purchased some calls for extra leverage.

I have been following SI for about a month or two and really like the idea of becoming self-sufficient, but have no illusions about how much I have to learn. I know the basics, but that's just enough knowledge to get me to lose 40% of my assets! I can see that it is the intimate knowledge of the fundamentals and TA, along with long practice of reading the ticks/volume, that enables one to make money trading.

How did you make the jump from employment (yawn...) to full-time trading?

P.S. How much did you lose before getting "religion" and applying a system with discipline?
