I took you at your word- I won't do it again.

I meant progress as in "to go forward" in time, not as in to go forward in value. But I can see how it confused you. There- case open.

Darwin? Go live in Cuba? Talk about a non-sequiter.

You want objections to your statement that the Constitution isn't the ultimate achievement of philosophic thought? Well that wasn't your ORIGINAL statement- this was:

>The logical conclusion to such a discussion was made July 4, 1776.<

Conclusion means an END. I don't agree that the Constitution ended the discussion about rights and freedoms in this country- and history will bear me out. 1776 STARTED the discussion it didn't conclude it. I disagree with your position that the constitution represents and end to any sort of discussion, because I don't think it does. But perhaps you didn't mean it that way?

Whether or not it is the "ultimate achievement of philosophic thought" is another question. I'd have to think about that for a while, and think about all the other civilizations that have existed- and then I'd wonder, is the Constitution really the ultimate? I mean the Bible has had more influence (so far) and that's an accomplishment of philosophical thought. And that's just ONE example- I can think of more.
