Let's say that French-speaking North Africa (Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria) is to France what Mexico is to the US.

Historically and more broadly speaking, Europe as a whole is treading the same civilizational path as Byzantium... Likewise, the US is similar to Latin Europe in the Middle Ages: commercial/financial dynamism (Venice, Florence), religious fanaticism (the crusades, the Templars,...), attempt to dominate the free/western world (the Pope, the contempt for Byzantium). Don't get me wrong, however: I don't intimate that Europe will convert to Islam altogether. 700 years ago, the battleground between Europe and the Mideast was indeed religious --Islam vs Christianity. Today, I've yet to sort out the ideological pattern underpinning the clash between Byzantine Europe and the Middle East....
