No different in nature when one species gets overpopulated they end up starving to death until the numbers are at a sustainable level. Take the coyote for example, when the deer population is high the coyote flourishes and their numbers grow to unsustainable levels until the food supply shrinks.
In this case the deer population is us muppets and the spec companies are the coyotes.
In conclusion a rationalization of spec companies is overdue as their food supply (in this case, money) is quickly drying up.
You may see more unemployed geos buying gold pans to earn a living.
