OFF SUBJECT Ali, thanks for the input.I don't want to belabor this subject, especially since it's off subject, but the problem was that Netscape would freeze and not respond at all. My original disk cache was less than 1MB. I suspect that Netscape was never designed with the speeds of cable modems in mind, and that maybe it can't handle a request for more storage to the disk while the disk was still active from the last storage. Almost any hard disk access will make some sort of sound if you're listening for it. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and going to no disk cache but retaining memory cache solved the problem. Cable modem is so fast it really needs only a minimal cache, perhaps none at all.
