John G: Think you just scored a major hit. Right on.

(OK I know this is pushing the thread rules, so here is an attempt at comment)

That Governments stand to lose huge amounts of money (in Korea inter alia) if Samsung is correct in its announcement and that this potential for CDMA2000 is proceeding to standard approval and roll out starting in the second half of next year, makes current CDMA spectrum all that is necessary for some time.

Sure the Samsung announcement also would mean that new spectrum would permit speeds of 15Mbts in new spectrum, but who needs that and for what?

The potential for 15Mbts will probably be very valuable in the future, but will operators put up big money for it now - especially in Europe where that possibility seems banned for now - i.e. UMTS will not repeat not permit it as best I can tell. But we shall see.

In any event, if Samsung is correct, new spectrum is more "iffy" as a money maker soon.

Best.
