Thomas, We had this discussion a while back. A short position is a short term capital gain regardless of how long it is held. i.e. if you un-cover before assignment. If the call is assigned the holding period is the same as the time the underlying is held. Unless the call is deep in the money then the holding period is reset. cboe.com Read this it helps. Andy D
