Santa Clara, California, Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Palm Inc., the No. 1 maker of electronic organizers, signed an agreement with SpeechWorks International Inc. that will let users access their calendars through any phone.

Terms weren't disclosed. The service should be ready in the first quarter, the companies said.

Palm will use the technology to let customers tap into their AnyDay Internet-based calendars. Palm bought AnyDay this year to let users of its hand-held organizers synchronize their calendars over the Internet and see their appointments from any Web-connected computer.

The service with SpeechWorks, whose software lets people browse the Internet with a telephone, will allow Palm customers call in an appointment to their calendar while walking to work using a cell phone.

Boston-based SpeechWorks stock has more than tripled since it first sold shares to the public in July. Friday, the stock fell 2.31 to 73.06.
