I don't get caught up in predicting how long something should last like a bear market. We will certainly get another one. I do think we are in the process of forming a market top. It may already be in place as certainly we have seen some distribution and weak market breadth.

If we get a bear market in the future... no one knows how long it will last.

But we do have some idea of what a market bottom looks like based upon past experiences.

In 2009 for instance the Investors Intelligence Poll had more bears than bulls for 5 solid months. When the bottom finally formed it did so with improving market breadth, low volume (compared to the previous months of selling), leading to higher volume rebound days, weeks and months after the bottom formed.

We can discuss market tops but it's premature to be trying to figure out any potential future bear market:
