$VIX - volatility index spiking like never before.
If it closes at current levels today, this will be the largest one week gain in the VIX.....ever.
That's pretty stunning. I think a lot of complacency was in the US markets especially this year. That has certainly been shot down this week.
On the positive side....spikes in VIX usually correlate with market lows (check back over the last few years and each signigicant low in the markets was matched by a commensurate spike in the VIX), so at some point fairly soon the markets should find an intermediate low. Whether that is a long term low is impossible to say but got to think September will see a little bottom fish buying tiptoe back into the most beaten down sectors.
