TP, there is a fascinating series on the learning channel (TLC) that discusses the emergence of the cult of christianity as a protest against the Roman empire. Specifically, the "thou shalt have no other god before me" part, is questioned as existing purely to thwart the Romans and their insistence that the elite were gods. Theres a lot of interesting tidbits in this series. I'm not sure if it is national because it is narrated by Peter Coyote and hes a local guy.
