Jack, a quote worth reading in light of yours and others post. "Most of all, a new partner must be willing and able from the outset to make strategic investments in manufacturing." Quote is from p 5 of 1997 annual report. Dr Barai post IMO indicates that they gave the standard comment on progress of partner talks, but expect a deal with a partner by end of second quarter of 98. What's wrong with this picture? You can't expect to conclude a deal so soon unless its already a done deal with with a few lose ends remaining to be tied up. Realize you were not the first to mention Amgen but I do feel your "speculation" on this issue brings things into much sharper focus. The word "outset" for example must have been chosen for a reason. Do you say to a potental partner before we start you must from the outset build a plant? More likely the other side says we will do this and starts to build. Then its made into a requirment to become a partner and the only one that has done it gets picked. <g>
