People are talking - Congressional Hearings & Immucor
unofficial NEWS by: technetx 1/23/00 11:03 pm
News that I have heard :
Immucor will be the topic of discussion at a meeting of the US House of Representatives in Washington this Thursday (1-27-00). Medical experts from Georgetown and elsewhere will testify about the life saving attributes of the ABS2000 and I-TRAC system.
It is rumored that these experts will ask congress to make the ABS and I-TRAC system MANDATORY in all hospitals and applicable institutions.
This event is a major step in getting Immucor the recognition it has needed so badly for so long. It may also be the one of the final stimuli needed to induce a major brokerage house to initiate coverage of Immucor.
As Tom Kirwin mentioned, there was an article about "medical erors" in the major Philadelphia paper on Sunday. It stated that the US Senate will also discuss the issue this week. The Senate Health and Education Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing in Washington on Tuesday about errors. The hearing will focus on the findings and recommendations in a report issued by a blue-ribbon panel of the National Academies of Sciences' Institute of Medicine in November. I do not know whether Immucor will be discussed in this session.
There has been rumors on this board (Yahoo), emanating from the corporate_mole, that DATELINE will air a segment about transfusion errors, and Immucor will be mentioned favorably in that story. MR. MOLE, surface from your subteranean home, and tell us what you know. At least, tell us one more time. I ,for one, believe you.

No offense there Mr. C. Mole, but pun intended.
This is heartening news, Dominic. I'm glad to see you in print name & all again.
I'm not wussing out on calling GA, but I think I shall wait to see the press release that follows the US Hse. Representatives mtg this Thurs, 1/27/00. I don't want to waste my best lines if there's something shaking w/this blood error problem & Immucor to the rescue.
Am I correct in assuming we can thank MS&L for this project? One of my questions was what were they doing for us & if they've arranged for Immucor's I-TRAC excellence in matching blood & patient to be presented to the Govt panel, I think discretion is the better part of valor & I'll slink quietly away til next time.
Just til Friday's news.
Thanks for posting this possibility before I got up a full head of steam for naught. |
