Followed your link. Hadn't occurred to me that this situation would be discussed in Characteristics and Risks... (of which I have a copy, of course, and actually DID read some years ago).

BUT: this seems more than unfair. Since American style options don't actually settle till the Saturday morning after the third Friday of the month, why shouldn't one simply be exercised at the last quoted prices before the lockup?

It's not RIGHT. We should SUE. We should sue even if it doesn't EVER happen, simply because it's not FAIR and could cause us anticipatory pain and suffering...
