Here's a similar error message (you may have seen it if you did a google)...unfortunately these folks charge $ for their help.:( Hopefully tcow's suggestion does the trick.

I've recently installed xp pro (sp1) on my system. It went on fine, no hitches at all. I've activated it and all worked fine until yesterday.
On switching on the computer, after the winxp splash screen I get a black screen with a mouse pointer showing, then after a moment I get these two error messages:

lsass.exe. Unable to locate component
lsarv.dll was not found. Reinstalling this component may fix the problem.

(then after clicking o.k)

services.exe. Unable to locate component
scesrv.dll was not found. Reinstalling this application may fix this problem.

then the computer just sits there.(the mouse does not freeze)

the h.d is Western digital 15g formatted to NTFS

Can i repair this without formatting the HD and starting again?
It sounds that it may be the HD is failing.

any ideas would be great.

Thanx.
