I think the words you seem to be fumbling over are "god" or " religious belief".

Of course you can use any dysphenism you choose. An astute reader will probably be able to understand your real meaning.

CRITICAL THINKING PART II - CLAIMS

By Prof. Cantens

CHAPTER 4: PERSUASION THROUGH RHETORIC (Handout # 4)

1.1 Euphemisms and Dysphemisms

1.1.1 Euphemisms are words or expressions that have a neutral or positive

emotive force. Forinstance, instead of the expression “used cars,” one can

use the expression “pre-owned.” The latter has a much more positive

connotation than the former.

E.g. “Department of War” is now called “Department of Defense”

1.1.2 Dysphemisms (the opposite of euphemism) are words or expressions

that have a negative emotive force. For instance, instead of “freedon

fighters,” one may use the word “guerrillas” or “rebels,” or even

worse, “terrorists”

1.1.3 With the intention of persuading, essays may contain one or more

euphemisims or dysphemisms. These words and/or expressions may

reflect more the authors’s biases than the facts of the matter. Therefore,

be aware of these tactics and don’t let yourself be influence by a simple

choice of words.
