Communism has not gone underground, see Cuba and North Korea but as a political force it is dead and will stay that way in much the same way as free market capitalism. The regulation of markets by governments is a keystone to any hope of a dynamic and, at the same time, just society due to the enormous educational and economic requirements of today's society.
Equally important the Enrons and Worldcoms show that one can not trust the market to control swindlers.

I can not see the point of mentioning that a New Jersey citizen brought a suit in California. As to the necessity of the suit please understand that the pledge was not banned. The use of the words "under God" was declared unconstitutional. This means that the Pledge has not been banned in its pre-1954 form. So my feeling is that the problem is that the majority of citizens want to impose their religious position on a minority(atheist, agnostics, and polytheists). This is in violation of the separation of church and state concept, a unique American concept. Conclusion: those who insist that under God be included in the Pledge are un-American.
