Thomas Sowell is always a treat to read. But this Frosty diatribe I must take offense, Terrence. A direct and aggressive physical response to illegals may provide a short-term solution but anticipate increased and perhaps more organized violence. Frosty also has a problem with 'legal' immigrants which implies a racist attitude.

A more comprehensive solution requires a more thorough understanding of the problem. The recent rush of immigration into the U.S. was initiated by our increased concern over the border situation since 9/11. Conservative commentators like the O'Reillys have only exacerbated the situation hence. Know that immigrants are compelled with greater urgency to crossover when they believe it will be more difficult tomorrow. The problem is this: We speak of sealing the borders and enforcing immigration laws but we do not act. Making hay and not delivering is a mortal sin in the Gospel according to Galt.

The long-term problem, of course, is this: We are a nation without a constitution. The politicians have there priorities which run contrary to that of the common citizen. The successful politician must win the vote. How one deals with extortion and bribery is the success or failure of the politician. I expect the immigration problem to persist.

We were founded as a constitutional Republic and not a social democracy. The politician must represent the people and not be ruled by them. We must restore the ideals of the Founders and restore the constitution and the rule of rational law.

John (I think it's too late) Galt
