JDN, re CA's "closest thing to a silver bullet" solution, I can not find anything on CA's website that leads me to believe CA is setting up its own factories to remediate the code, which is one of ALYD's key selling points. Unless CA is, I would say their approach is more in line with what PTUS is doing, i.e. providing a tool to clients that fixes COBOL. However, unlike PTUS, the CA tool works on a mainframe which, as you know from reading TEDennis' posts, is a huge advantage. Furthermore, ALYD's Smartcode works on many more languages than just COBOL.

So, once again, IMO, it boils down to whether the client wants to allocate their "valuable" programming resources to several years of picking through decades old code looking for dates, or whether they want to use their people for more productive work and just pay someone else, like ALYD, to do it for them. As the clock ticks on, they may not even have a choice but to farm it out.
