The only shorts I've ever done are short term plays on momentum plays.
After repeatedly rushing in with the crowd and purchasing at a price higher than that on the inevitable correction, I thought: "I've lost money every time I tried to buy on momentum, so why dont I short sell instead?" And so whenever I felt that a stock is going to double the next day, I consider short selling using the stop sell technique described earlier.

Also, if the intraday chart keeps going higher without ever falling, it's an indication of a short term shorting opportunity.

My analysis on momentum volatility is posted in the forum Misc/General(Technology) thread: "A simple list of General Do's and Donts of trading" post #21

I havent ever been short more than a few days.
Thanks for the info about the book. Will try to find it.
