Perhaps a silver lining to this economic turmoil is that, at least the state governments will need to look at their balance sheet a little closer and realize that you can't have all kinds of entitlement programs and expect them to get financed out of thin air. The money has to come from somewhere.

And we all know that once you create a government job it takes an act of god to eliminate that position. Could it be that we see shrinking in the size of government as a natural reaction to the overspending in recent years?

nah...I doubt it. I think we are well on the path to becoming a Eurostyle Semi-Socialist state. Too many people want something for nothing.
