KLM Traffic for Fiscal 1996/97
KLM overall traffic for fiscal year 1996/97 increased 6 percent compared with fiscal 1995/96. The increase in capacity kept pace at 6 percent. Overall load factor rose slightly from 72.4 to 73 percent. Passenger traffic increased 11 percent, while the increase in available seat kilometers was 8 percent, leading to a 1.5 point rise in passenger load factor to 75.9 percent.
Growth in passenger traffic exceeded capacity growth particularly in the Middle-East & South Asia and the Central & South America route areas. In KLM's Asia Pacific route area traffic was slightly less than expected growth however.
Cargo traffic grew 2 percent during fiscal 1996/97, with capacity growth of 2 percent. Cargo load factor stood at 66.3 percent, slightly lower than the fiscal 1995/96 figure of 66.7 percent.
March 1997 Traffic
KLM's overall March traffic increased 7 percent compared to March 1996. Capacity was up 3 percent. Consequently overall load factor rose 3.1 percentage points from 75.1 to 78.2 percent. March passenger traffic increased 15 percent compared to March 1996, accompanied by a 10 percent increase in capacity. Passenger load factor for the month was 81.1 percent, compared to 77.5 percent in March last year. Passenger traffic increased strongly by 25 and 17 percent on routes to and from Africa and North America respectively.
March 1997 cargo traffic declined 2 percent, while cargo capacity showed a decrease of 5 percent. A drop in cargo traffic of 15 percent was experienced on North American routes. Cargo load factor for March 1997 was 72.9 percent, 2.5 points higher than in March 1996.
