Perhaps someone who know about this can help.

Are the backup copies of Win98 files that SA wanted to delete necessary for some automated process where Win98 replaces files it finds defective? Or are they used for 'System File Checker' in some way?

As far as the temp stuff, IE allows the cache to be cleared easily enough: View | Internet Options... | [Delete] button.
