According to reports released today, consumer confidence had plummeted even before the September 11 tragedy. The big question now is -- will it go down even further or stabilize at these levels?

The other issue is that investors like you who were in denial throughout the 18 month-long bear-market are finally beginning to lose their resolve. The impact on the markets will of course depend on how many people have changed their minds the same way that you have.
