There are rigs around. They need a deeper rig. They are not that common. With the holes they want to drill, I don't think a Longyear 44 will drill them. I think they need a Boyles 56 or 75 to get there. By the time you get down to 3000 feet of BQ you have 6 tons of rods. That means you need 12 tons of pullback in the head. 24,000 lbs. That is a hungry-man drill. You don't do that with a Lngyr-38/44.
Depends on the machine, something like this might do it..
Rebuilt, vertical rig only (no angle), Detroit 353, diesel engine, Allison 643 transmission (lock-in device, stays in gear, placed in), 42” stroke of head, 19 gpm Vickers hydraulic pump, 35 gpm Bean pump, Longyear hydraulic chuck,60,000# capacity, folding mast (in 14’ section)
Longyear says this about the 44
Longyear 44 Diamond Core Drill System
The modular concept of this drill permits the operator to select components for a system, which is specifically tailored to individual drilling requirements. The Longyear 44 has an important safety feature of an automatic pre-torque and breakout tool. The drill can be trailer mounted and skid mounted for vertical and angle drilling.
