Verizon Wireless Extends EV-DO Reach By Susan Rush December 17, 2004 news@2 direct
Verizon Wireless has expanded the reach of its BroadbandAccess high-speed data network in Southern California, adding nearly all of Los Angeles, parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
The EV-DO network, which offers typical download speeds of 300 kbps to 500 kbps, now covers roughly 4,400 square miles of Southern California, with service being offered solely to Verizon's enterprise customers. The carrier has said, however, that it expects to introduce BroadbandAccess to individual consumers in early 2005.
As of early December, Verizon was offering its BroadbandAccess service in 18 major metropolitan areas in the United States, as well as 26 airports. The high-speed service is available for $79.99 per month for unlimited access with a 1- or 2-year service agreement. For a limited time, Verizon is offering the BroadbandAccess PC 5220 card for $49.99 with a 2-year customer agreement or $99.99 with a 1-year customer agreement after $150 mail-in rebate.
Yesterday, Verizon introduced the VX6600 from UTStarcom Personal Communications. The EV-DO handset, targeted at Verizon's business customers, comes equipped with Wireless Sync, Windows Mobile software and high-speed data network access. ------------------ audiovox |
