Jeffrey,
I chased up the INTC options and got in at 3 1/2 last week just before the downgrade. I wish I had waited. I would have been able to get in at less than two. I don't usually hold options for very long (maybe a couple of weeks or a month tops). More often than not it's just for a week. The problem with this is that a couple of times I got out a little too early and miss runs. The reasoning behind my strategy is as follow. I try to get to know a stock pretty well so that I can act with some confidence (false or otherwise) when I feel there will be a good short term run up. Stay in for the run up, get out. Sometimes I'll season with a little day trading. The beauty of this is that you don't lose too much time value. My goal is to get a couple of points out of my options. If they double, great. But if you can consistently get a couple points out of your options, in no time you'll really see your money grow. I set aside $7,000 in June to experiment with options. As I was learning the ropes, I managed to work that down to $1,500. With a few months experience and some confidence now, I have worked that up to $16,000. This may be tough to believe, but I havn't lost any money in my last 19 options trades. It may be time to transfer money from stocks to do some real options trading. Any strategies you'd like to share?
