There was a recent news announcement about RNWK and MSFT getting together again. Basically,MSFT's Web TV device is now able to play both Windows Media Technologies streamed audio and RNs's streamed G-2 audio.It is very significant in that it seems to represent a bit of a thaw between the two companies,and what I believe is a continued effort by MSFT to do whatever it takes (eventually) to participate and benefit from the growth of the net as a medium for rich content delivery---i.e. streaming.

From my perspective,anything that facilitates more streaming players out there makes for increased demand to "create" content-- and it is the creation end of the equation where VCST plays. I view this alignment as an acknowledgement by MSFT that Real's audio formats are pretty damn good,and they want to not preclude their Web TV from being able to play RNWK's G2 content. In time,there will be some kind of convergence between these two major competitors and possibly with Apple/Quicktime as well (a recent dark horse in this race) but in the near future I feel there will continue to be differing formats due to the "extremely" rapid pace of technology innovation to improve the media experience over the net.

Each will seek to gain advantage via technology benefits,and VCST's goal is to continue to help each of the market leaders to make their prespective products better through their technology partnerships,and subsequent turnkey solution products embodied in Viewcasts'products.
