I gave up on Norton a couple of years ago when I seemed to be spending way too much time fixing Norton problems instead of it protecting me and fixing mine. I also think the simple approach is the better approach. If an application doesn't work for you and you are spending too much time and effort trying to get it to work, ditch it and find something else to handle the job.
