New rumor on CEO From SJ Mercury 8/15/97 OLAFSSON REPORTEDLY EYED AS APPLE BOSS S. jobs has reportedly approached Olaf Olafsson, who spearheaded Sony Corp.'s entry into electronic game consoles, to take over the reins of Apple Computer Inc. The Icelandic daily Morgunbladid first reported the Cupertino company's interest in the 33-year-old ex-novelist, and Iceland's RUV news service later reported that Olafsson acknowledge talking to Jobs. However, Iceland-born Olafsson declined at the time to comment on whether he was offered the post of chairman and/or CEO. In 1995, Olafsson successfully launched Sony's PlayStation - against entrenched competitors Sega and Nintendo - but left the companiy's interactive entertainment group soon after, amid rumors that seniors Sony executives were unhappy about the $299 price of the system.
