we got a real problem in the energy area and I don't like dependence on arab nations at a gut level -- but the solution is complicated. For the time being we can't just shoot for independence -- it is unreachable, IMO. We do have to look to resources that we have --

share something with you: we are currently analyzing the addition of a coal plant and some pollution abatement at some plants -- we will probably be borrowing a sum that will double the size of our company -- the first thought of the executives was get in line for the loan funds -- as an analyst, I don't know when we need the plant, but there is a momentum that will probably result in the plant being built earlier -- by at least 3-5 years -- than the plant is actually needed.

If only I could simply analyze the need for the project and the risks of putting it into service at different times -- I know we could make a really good risk-adjusted decision -- but the rush to acquire the loan drives the analysis. I am not unethical -- I won't say something that isn't true -- but others will interpret my work. Something about moving up the chain of command makes folks less willing to express themselves directly and forthrightly.
