Well said. The problem is that very few politicians at any level have any meaningful understanding of anything technical or mathematical. I will avoid saying anything rude about lawyers, since I see you are one, or economists for that matter, since that's what I studied.

Too many people in politics are over interested in legislative process and election results, and pay little attention (because of ignorance mostly, not because they are evil!) to the long term future of their civil society.

The good news is that us peasants are pretty rational, and once energy prices really start to take off, we will start to do sensible things at the individual level. It won't be enough, but it may give some brave souls among our leaders the chance to begin to speak out, and be honest about some difficult choices.
