Thanks, qdog. I also understood that the unique Austin Chalk is an excellent candidate for horizontal because of the resevoirs thickness and it also has many discretely fractured areas. Hasn't there also been alot of drilling induced damage in the Chalk?

I think the vertical well perf process cleans up near wellbore damage. There are successful examples of this in Alberta's basal formations.

This brings me to the question: are the Soviets regarded as having a high well-bore or near well-bore damage rate in their fields? They do have a history of some really sloppy work.

A final question which may or may not concern aipn's concession:

Are you aware of any cases where a structure with a tagged "potential" reserve proved unsuccessful in initial exploratory drilling only to be made productive with the implementation of newer technology and or drilling methods? There has been alot of drill and move on in the past, but are there any previously untapped structures that are now in fact highly profitable?

If there are I'd appreciate any info regarding their locations.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

p.s. Yep, this is one spooked market and I can't wait to hear God-Emperor Greenspan envoke his unique vocabulary on things.
