No, I didn't understand you to suggest a "booming economy" -- possibly a little tongue in cheek or mild sarcasm. :^)

Concerning the DOW decline in January -- there are several unusual events on the world agenda this month, not the least of which is the Iraq election on the 30th. I am not sure if it would be wise to jump into equities, outside of energy related issues and gold which in my opinion enjoy favorable reward to risk ratios. It is inconceivable that the Iraqi election will go down as smoothly as planned or the price of petrol stabilize any time soon. The game is complicated and the variables numerous.
