From my viewpoint, their first priority must halt the slice in property values which collateralize mortgage loans. That action will slow mortgage and other loan defaults which are at the root of bank loan losses causing capital deficiencies at banks. Right now it's an virtuous downward sucking whirlpool into a black hole nobody wants to be sucked into given the remaining memories of the Great Depression. Ultimately, with the incompetent clowns in charge of the asylum, they'll probably grossly overshoot leading us into an inflationary depression Argentina style.
